Access to Materials and Equipment

If you are a Student, Faculty and/or Staff

You will need your Sul Ross ID card to check out materials. Students must be currently enrolled; faculty and staff must be currently appointed or retired.

If you are a Community Borrower

You will need your CB card to check out materials. The charge for a Community Borrower card is $50.00 with a yearly renewal of $25.00. The cards are issued and renewed at the Library Information Desk.

If you are a Visitor

Anyone may come to the Library and use its resources. A selection of the current issues of popular magazine subscriptions is available on the first floor in an area with leisure seating and spectacular views. Current newspapers from cities across Texas are also located in this area. Issues of the town’s newspaper, the Alpine Avalanche, and back issues of all newspapers may be requested from the Circulation Desk on the first floor.


Loan Periods

Circulating books – 3rd floor

Undergraduate Students: 4 weeks during fall and spring semesters, 2 weeks during summer semesters.
Graduate Students/Faculty/Staff: Books are due on the last day of the current semester.

Community Borrowers: 4 weeks (checkout limited to 10 books at a time).

Reserve Items – Circulation Desk, 1st floor

Loan periods are designated by each professor.

Bestsellers – 1st floor

Undergraduate and Graduate Students: 4 week checkout during fall and spring, 2 week checkout during summer (checkout limited to 2 bestsellers at a time).

Faculty/Staff/Community Borrowers: 4 week checkout (checkout limited to 2 bestsellers at a time).

Audiovisual Media – Circulation Desk, 1st floor

Loan period varies by type of media.

Please note that reference books, Archives materials, and magazines/journals/newspapers do not circulate. Due dates for charged items can be confirmed online by utilizing the library’s online account services.
