Anyone may come to the Library and use its resources. A selection of the current issues of popular magazine subscriptions is available on the first floor in an area with leisure seating and spectacular views. Current newspapers from cities across Texas are also located in this area. Issues of the town’s newspaper, the Alpine Avalanche, and back issues of all newspapers may be requested from the Circulation Desk on the first floor.

The bulk of the Newspapers and all of our reference books are located on the first floor, periodicals and journals (both current and retrospective) are located on the second floor, but and the regular circulating books can be found on the third floor.

Reference assistance is available from the Information Desk on the first floor. Photocopiers are located near the back of the first floor and copies are $0.1 per page. Flash drives and blank CDs may be purchased at the Circulation Desk.

There are guest computers with Microsoft Office software and internet access available to library visitors. Please inquire at the Information Desk to be logged on as a guest. There will be a $1.00 fee for using the guest computers from August 1, 2018.

WebCat is the Library’s online catalog and is available 24/7 to anyone, anywhere via the internet. For your convenience, one non-password-protected workstation is dedicated to WebCat and is on the first floor, near the Circulation Desk. Use it to explore the holdings of the Library and the Archives of the Big Bend.

Those who are interested in the history and culture of the Trans-Pecos will want to visit the Archives of the Big Bend, on the second floor.

Permanent residents of Brewster, Presidio, Jeff Davis, or Pecos counties who are over 18 and not enrolled in a public, private, or home school are encouraged to ask at the Information Desk about the procedure to apply for a Community Borrower card. This fee-based service entitles card holders to borrow up to ten books at one time and to use the Library’s computers with a unique password. Check out the Community Borrower page for more details.
